This is a striking, bold and Amazing Antique Vintage Abstract Hard Edge Cubist Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a cubistic and modern abstraction of geometric shapes, lines and spheres. This work approximately dates to the 1950 s – 1960 s, and was created by St. Augustine, Florida modernist woman painter Gilberte Masson (? – ?). Despite her long career as an exhibited artist, there is not much biographical information on this pioneering female modernist. She exhibited her pieces at the Twenty-First Annual Florida Artists Group Exhibition and Symposium at Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida, amongst many others. Perhaps you know more about her or her work? Signed: “Masson” in the lower right corner. Additionally, this work is signed and titled on the verso: “Gilberte Masson…A Step Forward.” Approximately 32 3/4 x 38 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 32 x 38 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light edge wear to the original period frame. This fantastic painting would be the centerpiece of any tasteful modern home or business setting.
