Description

ARTIST STATEMENT :

My works is about the concept of Beauty and Ugly in our society and culture. How these concepts/ideas changes by time. Artist, Philosophers and Writers show us the concept of beauty and ugly from a particular period in our human history.

I m representing misconceptions about people suffering Vitiligo through my work.

We know vitiligo is not contagious disease. It is a skin condition in which there is a loss of pigment in areas of skin. This result is uneven white patches that have no pigmentation, but the skin feels like normal.

Some people with misconception treat them as untouchables and consider them as ugly. In variegated plants it is appearance of differently colour zone in the leaves and sometimes in stems or whole plant.

A lack of chlorophyll development in some tissues causes variegation with white or yellow coloured patches in the leaf. We treat variegated leaf as beautiful and keep those plants as a beauty symbol in our home and gardens. Vitiligo and Variegation are natural but without the true knowledge about how the concept of Beauty and ugly are perceived in our society.
