                             ABOUT THE ARTIST:

  Vasily Yolokhov cognizes the world and those around him through painting: “I am trying to understand the essence of purity and authenticity beyond superficial meanings. I work with opposites and contrasts, mixing abstraction and images of the visible world. Inspired by music, in my paintings I convey the principle of selecting images from music to painting. This process brings me interest and fills me. Painting makes up a large part of Vasily s artistic practice. Repeatedly noted at exhibitions in Kharkov, Kyiv, Moscow, Odessa, London, Shanghai, Berlin, it arouses the constant interest of art connoisseurs. Poetic landscapes and romantic still lifes have found their place in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, Germany, England, Turkey and China. The artistry of the presentation of the painting and spectacular thematic finds, the refined poetics of images and emotionality, the identification of the author s technique with original painting techniques determine the recognizability of Vasily Yolokhov s pictorial work, recognizable in the modern world of art. A separate theme in Vasily s work is (are) circular paintings that have occupied the artist s imagination lately. Circular paintings are a metaphor for life, which reflects its ring-shaped trajectory: everything moves in a circle – day follows night, seasons alternate, the circular motion of the luminaries in the sky inevitably reminds of the circular motion of the Earth around the Sun. Sadness replaces joy, making up an emotional cycle, and the cyclical nature of history has long been a topic for dissertations. The search for new forms led me to the idea of ​​a painting without beginning or end. The form of a circular panoramic picture, when we see around 360 degrees, encourages reflection on the unity in the center of which we are and infinity, of which we are accidental witnesses. In this attempt to transcend, to break out of the frame of the picture, I moved away from the form of the picture in the interior and found myself in the exterior of the urban environment. An impetus to my imagination was given by a billboard (known as the Morris Stand, French colonne Morris), with concert and theater posters – an advertising area in the center of large cities. So the urban landscape became an object of circular contemplation, the static position of the artist was replaced by a circular dynamics of movement. The artist does not see the whole picture as a whole. This determines the unexpectedness and unpredictability of the result, gives the circular picture expressiveness and dynamics.
