This work is breathtaking & haunting in the manner of an Edvard Munch
landscape, but simultaneously has an inspiring element to it, that makes it
extremely hopeful and uplifting! Titled Shelter it depicts two figures
apparently embracing under an umbrella protecting themselves
on a strange pathway that can be best described as a surrealist vision.
The skies are crimson red and gold, the ground is red, orange and yellow.
Trees and streetlights appear in the most minimalist form and
this composition consumes the viewers, whom find themselves absorbing
the meaning of the painting.
Surrealist modern art embraces and gives form to the imagination.
This is a wonderful late 20th century work that definitely captures the imagination
and pops with vibrant color when displayed upon a wall.
The blue stars on the red skies are simply a superb surreal vision!
Shelter is written in ink verso on frame.
Where are the figures going? Are they sheltered from the storm?
Is their relationship the shelter they seek? Is it the escape into
this surreal environment that is the shelter the artist is depicting?
Like works of Max Beckmann, symbolism appears to take on
a very large role in the composition of this piece.
A great painting to ponder and enjoy!
Excellent Condition. Very light age wear to canvas.
A wonderful artwork for the discerning collector!
