Description
Unique Tigua Ecuador Indigenous Art / painting on Sheepskin with hand-painted frame by Juan Francisco Ugsha Ilaquichi. This painting is definitely by one of the more important artists in this genre and the subject matter is first rate as well. There appears to be a bullfight with wounded / bleeding men as well as some sort of Shaman or Shamanic ritual going on. Theres multiple figures with black masks or painted faces as well as one with an animal mask, some dwellings, and men, women, and children. Very cool and creepy. Measures aprx 25.75 x 16 x 2
This is in relatively good condition with wear from age as well as the folk method applied to make it – the stretched sheepskin has some mild warping as well as separation from the edge of the frame, some mild soiling. Much of this is due to the age (I m guessing 1960s or 1970s) as well as the primitive way it was made and stretched (paint from the frame getting on the painting itself around the edge etc). Being sold as is but a really awesome piece despite this wear.
I m downsizing – all offers considered!
