Description
A beautiful German modernist watercolor painting from artist Otto Thamer (1892-1975). The image depicts a team of workingmen loading grain onto a barge in the Seine River at Paris and is painted in the Neue Sachlichkeit style prevalent in German art of the Wiemar period. The painting is hand signed and dated 1926 Paris in the lower right, it is titled in the left corner landarbeiter auf Seiner (farmhands on the Seine). Good sized, the image measures 20 x 13 1/2 inches, with mat and frame the outside dimensions are 26 x 19 inches and it is its original German frame with the stamp of a Hamburg framer on the reverse. The painting shows mild and even age toning to the paper and a tiny tear across the date, otherwise it is in excellent condition. Frame has numerous surface losses and needs touching up.
